Q: I am thoroughly confused. What is the difference between “mm thickness” and “AC Rating” when looking at laminate flooring?

One of the most important questions you will want to ask yourself (and ask us) is about the AC rating on each individual laminate floor and what it means in relationship to thickness (mm).  AC rating is a common term and incredibly important resource to all consumer and is used to indicate the durability level of every line of laminate flooring.

Created by an independent body known as European Producers of Laminate Flooring (EPLF), AC ratings provide a brief code of a laminate's resistance to stress and resilience that will help buyers truly understand the difference in durability among laminate flooring products.

The “mm” or thickness is simply a statement of the thickness of the board at shipping and doesn’t provide knowledge of the wear or durability of the product at all.
